Check this out: If you haven't heard, Peninsula Grill's executive chef Robert Carter opened his all-new Carter's Kitchen Thursday. It's located in the Inn at I'On (formerly Jacob's Kitchen) and will serve lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. The big question? Are we gonna be paying Peninsula prices? I got a look at a draft of the menu, and it looks like you can get out a bit cheaper. There's small plate options like jambalaya and seared scallops going for $10.50 and $12, with the most expensive entree—a pan-roasted New York strip—less than $30.
And I like the looks of the fancied-up bar food on Carter's "tavern menu," including bites like crispy okra chips with tomato aioli and and crab nachos with Manchego and Coleman's Dry Mustard. Other menu standouts? Bruleed grapefruit with vanilla sugar, crispy flounder and shrimp with tartar sauce and cheese grits, bacon-blue cheese Benedict, and a DLT—a sandwich stuffed with duck confit, cranberry relish, whipped goat cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Um… YUM. I'll take the DLT with some crab nachos on the side, please.
