If you have not been to Glazed, the doughnut shop on King Street, you need to get your butt over there stat. In the past two weeks, I've been to Glazed three times. That is a lot of doughnuts, my friends. I am obsessed with their light, fluffy, mouth-watering treats. So much better than Krispy Kreme. Why, might you ask?
First off, nothing is processed. All the doughnuts are made fresh every morning and when they sell out, that's it for the day. I was browsing the website and found this quote that pretty much sums it up:
"It's real! The ingredients are natural. Our glaze, fillings and pastries are homemade (or grown in our herb garden). Our dough is also made in-house. We don't use any frozen or pre-made dough. There are no preservatives, or any other random additives. No food coloring and no artificial flavorings! Our ingredients speak for themselves. We use Hickory Hills Milk. Our goat cheese is provided by John Island's Burden Creek Dairy and we are convinced Nueske's is the best bacon we've ever tasted! "
So you can see, these are quite possibly the freshest doughnuts around.
Secondly the flavors are off the hook. Such innovative ideas. My two favorites are the Maple Bacon and Raspberry. Don't go snubbing your nose at the Maple Bacon doughnut. It is the perfect combo of salty and sweet, with rich maple icing topped with crispy pieces of bacon. You will want to stuff your face with more than one of these after you taste it....
And the Raspberry Doughnut is covered with icing made from pureed fresh raspberries. You can tell by the color that the icing is not processed, it is all fresh, ripe raspberries.
Other flavors I have yet to try but want to: Strawberry and Champagne, Apple Pie Cheddar, Pumpkin, and Strawberry Basil Lime.
See what I mean about the flavor combinations??? Pure genius. So walk an extra lap today so you can go indulge in doughnuts tomorrow morning. You can thank me later:) Note: if you've got your heart set on a certain flavor, call ahead and ask them to hold it for you. The doughnuts sell out fast!
