Did you know that flowers aren't just for show? They're actually a pretty effective form of communication, beyond "Love you, honey." In the Victorian era, the custom of communicating with flowers became so popular that it was recorded in books, the most influential of these being Le Language des Fleurs, or "the language of flowers." The study of it is also known as floriography, which assigns meaning to a particular variety of flower. For example, the peony means good health and happiness. While a red rose may convey love, a yellow rose conveys friendship.
Interested? Great, here's the whole list. Happy V-Day shopping—now think hard what you want to say....
(Oh and P.S.? A rose isn't just a rose. One rose? Seven roses? As you'll see, it's time to think carefully....)
