Toss out your old beauty habits like a pair of strange boxer briefs, found tucked in deep at the foot of your bed after a one night stand. Ring in the new year on a beautiful and healthy note with a few quick and easy steps, that this beauty expert promises will lead to better skin and hair, keep you looking young even though another year has passed, and most of all, even the laziest or over worked bevy of beauties can do to insure that 2014 is nothing less than gorgeous!

It's officially a few weeks into the new year, and you've no doubt made plenty of promises with yourself about what 2014 will hold. There's always the usual... "resolutions," I believe we call them. I hate that word because as we all know 99% of resolutions don’t last beyond the end of the month let alone a full year. I am always a believer that one can change, and that it’s ultimately how long the change lasts that really matters. The year 2013 wasn't the best for me personally, so even before day one of January hit, I had already made up my mind that this year was going to be different.

“Different,” can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. I needed inspiration for my billionth new beginning, so obviously I sought help in the safest and most sane places to seek advice.... Facebook! I simply asked my friends what they would like to do different in their beauty and skincare routines and the answers came flowing! I got tons of great tips and advice; some of which I had already been doing and many which I have since begun. Three weeks ago, the only thing certain was that this year, instead of packing on a few extra pounds from procrastination and overindulgence, I was going to actually add a few extra products and rituals to my daily routine!

Three weeks in and a few lifestyle changes later, not to mention 10 pounds lighter... things are going pretty well. I am very excited with the changes and the steps because they’re all super easy and you can actually see a change. As with anything in life, actions + benefits = results. Makeup artistry is my passion and I love how it empowers women and can really put a smile on someone’s face, however I am also a man and there is nothing about me wearing a new shade of lipstick that would make me smile, nor would it my parents....gulp. That said, please keep in mind that I am a man writing a blog on Skincare and Beauty, therefore I trusted my female counterparts at work to try the girlie tips such as trying new new makeup or a bold new color of lipstick.

So, heres my list and I fully intend on continuing to update y'all as the results pour in... or fail to!

  • Take your vitamins.
  • Take the time to actually apply and wear makeup.
  • Drink water (one oz. x half your body weight in lbs.)
  • Wear your sunscreen!
  • Exfoliate, and that means body, face, and lips.
  • Moisturize everything, in particular the ares you usually forget.
  • Try a completely NEW color.
  • Exercise in way you’re not used to.
  • Wash your makeup brushes. Regularly!
  • My personal favorite... Smile!

I love the first tip and have been doing this for years but I have really become religious in the last few weeks. Vitamins make your hair and nails grow while adding strength, and they totally make your skin glow. Recently a friend gave me a bottle of muscadine grape seed and I have been taking that and so far, I am loving the results.

There you have it!

ACP’s top tips for a healthy beautiful new year. I love the fact that social media allows us all to share ideas, thoughts, and products that most of us can benefit from. I want to thank my buddies for stepping up and sharing because not only do I feel better, thanks to your helpful advice, I think some of these pointers might actually stick around for a while. At the end of the day, I may be peeing a lot from drinking so much water but my skin has never looked so good!!!
