Ohhh, Sunday... We've Got a New Favorite

After much debate about the pouring rain and freezing cold this Sunday, Ed and I set out to find ourselves some lunch. We drove past some old staples on Folly Road, and ultimately decided to give Baguette Magic a whirl.  It looked warm inside, and who doesn't love a good baguette? I'd been curious about this little shop for a while now, but had been terrified to go in... I feared another bakeshop that I would need to avoid, thanks to my ravenous sweet tooth. It's been here for almost a year, started by the authentically French Mat Richard.

Poor guy, he was so desperate for a real baguette in Charleston he was forced to learn how to make it himself!  Lucky for us, he's decided to share his baguettes with the world.

We looked over the menu, pored over the cases of croissants, and placed our order. Since it was Sunday, we had the $10 brunch as an option. Ed ordered the pepper, onion, and tomato egg sandwich, with a side of raspberry croissant.

That's right, you heard me... side of croissant. I got the spinach, feta, and honey croissant with a side of fruit salad. In a few short minutes, we had these warm, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth confections placed in front of us. Oh, Sunday. My favorite of all days. You just got EVEN better. I was so glad I decided to skip a salad and get this croissant sandwich, but I am glad to know they have salads should I wander here in the future. Another plus? Nothing on the menu is over $10. In the current world of the $12 sandwich, it's nice to be able to get a full meal for $10 or less.

My croissant sandwich was so good, I almost ordered another one. They were out of spinach and substituted arugula, which I personally think should be permanent because I love arugula so darn much. The feta was not tart in the least, it was soft and fresh, and the honey was just a slight hint in the background telling me that I should really consider ordering another. I know people use the term "melt in your mouth" a lot... I know this, okay? But sometimes, things ACTUALLY melt in your mouth. Bread is not usually one of these, but theirs is.   Ed's sandwich was as good as mine, and when I took a bite, we actually debated over what was a fair "sharing bite." He claims I opened my mouth WAY too wide for a "share" bite, and demanded I give him a bite of mine (which I'd previously denied). I reluctantly agreed. He was kind enough to let me have one "sharing bite" of his raspberry croissant, but not before he ate the good part at the end where the filling overflows into the buttery goodness of the croissant. I could have a bite, he said, but it have would be on his terms.

And were you thinking you don't feel like driving to James Island to enjoy a croissant? DON'T WORRY! They deliver fresh  bread and croissants each week to Folly, James Island, and downtown (and maybe West Ashley, depending on your exact locale) for a minimum order of $5. Here's the best news of all... THEY'RE DELIVERING THE MORNING OF THANKSGIVING. Whaaaat?  Really want to impress your guests and in-laws? Have them deliver a dozen fresh-made, legitimately French, chocolate, raspberry, or almond croissants for breakfast!
