In case you missed the news, Charleston's very own Halls Chophouse was recently named the #5 Best Restaurant in America via TripAdvisor’s 2015 Travelers’ Choice Awards and #17 Best Restaurant on Yelp's Top Restaurants in the US list. I recently had the chance to sit down with Bill Hall of Halls Chophouse to talk about the recent awards, the acquisition of Maverick Southern Kitchens, and what the future of the Hall Management Group looks like.

Charleston Grit: One of the things that sets Halls Chophouse apart, in my opinion, is the presence of the Hall family in the restaurant. How much of your success do you attribute to the restaurant being a family affair?

Bill Hall: The Hall family presence is a big deal to us, but we also place a high emphasis on friendly employees that deliver excellent customer service.

CG: What do you think is more important to a positive dining experience: a delicious meal or impeccable service?

BH: Every great restaurant in the world needs both impeccable service and top-quality cuisine. All have to work together.

CG: What was your background before opening Halls and how do you think it helped you to achieve your current success?

BH: I have 55 years of experience in the hotel, resort, and management industries.

CG: What's the one thing on the menu that you can't get enough of?

BH: Either the bison steak or the creamed corn—both are my favorites.

CG: What's one thing that people don't know about Halls Chophouse?

BH: There is nothing we can’t do for our guests. We had a woman call last night requesting chocolate cake sliced 17 ways with “Happy Birthday” written on each piece. We made it happen. We do whatever it takes to make people happy.

CG: What's your vision of the future with Halls and your other restaurants?

BH: We will be expanding Halls in another location. As for our newly-acquired restaurants, we are going to keep the concepts the same but improve upon them. We will work hard to keep the traditions alive.
