Monday was a great little day for me. I had an appointment in the morning, got some Christmas shopping done (almost finished, WOO!), headed over to my favorite yoga spot, then popped into what’s sure to be a new regular place for me: Dell’z Deli.
I know, I’m super late to the game, and Dell’z has been around since 2010. When you move away from downtown, you kind of miss all these new little spots that are popping up all the time! I’m always walking by it on the way to or from yoga, but usually not at a meal time. So this was the perfect time for me to stop in and grab some lunch.
Dell’z is located at 1A Cannon street, basically at the corner of King and Cannon. It’s right down the street from Charleston Power Yoga, so you can really be super heady all in one day by taking your favorite yoga class and getting your favorite vegan wrap. OR, you can stumble over after a night at the Silver Dollar, and have yourself a Turkey Roll or a Big Daddy (boasting three different kinds of meat). They serve everything from meat-filled wraps, to vegetarian and vegan fare that will make you want to convert. Meatless Monday? Yes, indeedy. It’s always meatless Monday at Dell’z if you want it to be.
Initially I walked into Dell’z Vibez, which is really a juice and smoothie bar around the corner, started by Dell’s daughter Nikki. It took me a minute to figure out that they would not feed me.
So I walked around the corner to an even tinier little place which was the real Dell’z Deli. Immediately I saw two of the smiliest faces I’ve ever seen in my life. Seriously, these people were super happy. I knew in about two minutes it was Dell and her cute son.
How cute are they? I know, I know, her son is a little blurry… but I promised them it was cute of her. He really wanted to make sure it was a good picture of her anyway.
I looked at the menu for a minute, and then got nervous because I didn’t know what I wanted and I hate being new to a restaurant and taking forever… and everyone’s looking at you and you’re holding up the line… So I finally just asked what I should order. Dell and another patron of the deli simultaneously shout “The hummer!” YAY! That’s what I was looking at!
So I got the Hummer. It was so good y’all! It was crunchy and the hummus was AWESOME and the fresh squeezed lime over all of it was so fresh and good. And it was WAY more food than I could eat. This almost never happens. For real, almost never!
