I love it when I can justify indulgence for a good cause. That's why I'm especially enthused about what's going on in town this coming Friday, July 25th, at the Haagen-Dazs on North Market Street. Haagen-Dasz has partnered with Bert's Big Adventure, a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading joy to children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families, sending them on all expenses-paid trips to Disney World for five days each year. The organization has been helping these kids since 2002, and Haagen-Dasz right here in Charleston has graciously agreed to donate 50 percent of all of their profits earned on July 25th towards Bert's Big Adventure.
Last week, I took my 18 month-old daughter downtown to "practice" for the big event this Friday. She's a big fan of ice cream, and it was really fun being able to bring her down to an ice cream shop that I have been frequenting since I was a teenager. Surreal, but fun. We both love the strawberry ice cream, with its trademark creamy richness and chunks of frozen strawberries.
But you don't need any more convincing, right? I mean, it's ice cream, for crying out loud. For a great cause. And the more you eat, the better it is for this great cause. I won't tell anyone you ate three ice cream cones back-to-back. Of course, that's only if you promise not to tell anyone that I did, either.
So I'll see you there, right? Right?
