Summer’s almost over and it’s time for local techies to get serious (if you’re the type that loses focus when all your friends are at the beach). Whether you need to practice your coding or pitch an idea, here are four events and two programs with regular meetings that technophiles in Charleston might want to look into.

 

 

 

Hackathon 4 - The Pirates of Silicon Harbor

August 23 & 24

Hackathon is an app development contest hosted by Sparc, a local and nationally recognized software company. Teams spend the week developing an app that they’ll later present to a panel of judges.

 

 

 

 

 

Tech After Five

August 26

Tech after Five is a place where technology professionals, entrepreneurs, and supporters looking to advance their careers can go to network. Your first beer is on the house if you bring a business card with you. Tickets are free!

 

 

 

 

 

Silicon Harbor Welcome Center opening (soft launch)

September 8

The welcome center will feature brochures, promotional materials, and job postings from tech-related companies. Once officially open, the center will be available for use from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Contact info@digsouth.com for details.

 

 

 

 

 

Startup Weekend Charleston

September 12-14

Do you have a startup idea? Find out if it can happen here. Anyone interested in entrepreneurship and the startup scene should consider attending this weekend-long event. Begin by pitching ideas on Friday and end by demonstrating prototypes with your team on Sunday. Tickets will cost  $25-$99.

Code Camp Charleston was founded by The Charleston Digital Corridor with the goal to expand the technical skills of locals that want to be part of our city’s booming technology sector.
