The organizers of Charleston’s Jail Break Festival, taking place this Saturday at the Old City Jail, are opening up the floor for local comics of any experience level to vie for three open slots in the coveted Jail Break Comedy Room via The Unusual Suspects Comedy Competition

This inaugural event will take place at Big Gun Burger Shop this Thursday, April 24th, at 8pm and be hosted by one of Charleston’s favorite (and Jail Break staple), Vince Fabra. Interested contestants should sign up between 7:00 and 7:50.

“Jail Break has always been an amazing platform for new and established local artists to continue perfecting their craft and gain exposure in front of new audiences,” says Evan Berke, Jail Break Co-Producer and Resident Executive Producer of the comedy room. “We are very excited about this competition, and hope that it encourages those who have never acted upon their urge to get on stage to be inspired and push their own personal boundaries.”

The competition itself is built for momentum. In the first round, comics will sign up to perform two minutes worth of eye-grabbing, punch-driving material. A group of judges will select a group of semifinalists who will then perform three more minutes of stand up in the second round. Finally, five contestants will be given five minutes to perform for the judges and audiences, who will collectively decide who goes on to get the open spot on Saturday.

And Charleston Grit is proud to be the first to announce the complete roster of scheduled comic for this installment of Jail Break!
