It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, practically overnight at my house. I’m firmly in the Never Before Thanksgiving camp when it comes to decorating, but I’m the first to start stringing lights and pulling out Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving.
Colored or white lights, you ask? Both. Typically white lights on the tree and those happy vintage ceramic-colored bulbs outdoors. My idea of Christmas decorating is festive and homespun. Collected, not matchy. My childhood ornaments hang next to new finds like these funky glass disks I saw at Anthropologie or this gilded star tree topper from West Elm.
I love the Old World feel of this Christmas tree in interior designer Barry Dixon’s kitchen—the wooden garland and the orange and yellow accents, colors you don’t typically think of at Christmas.
I want my house to feel cozy and special for my kids, the way I remember Christmas growing up. This pom-pom garland from Terrain feels nostalgic and colorful, like a treasured children’s Christmas book!
Living on Sullivan’s Island only adds to the enchantment of the season, from neighbors’ quirky, inspired Christmas light displays and oyster roasts, to the annual Station Lighting, Christmas on Sullivan’s is full of southern coastal Christmas tradition. This year, I’m starting my own tradition with The Collective, a yard sale of curated goods hosted by Cortney Bishop Design. The Collective was inspired by the idea of a “new” yard sale, a curated mix of treasures both high and low. Think yard sale-holiday soiree: my front yard and porch brimming with new and refurbished furniture and accessories collected over the years, hand selected Christmas decorations, beautiful paintings by Lulie Wallace (as well as her newly launched line of textiles), music, holiday spirits and treats!
