Colonial Candle Celebrates Charleston Flagship

Colonial Candle recently threw a fabulous grand opening party for its first flagship store, now located in The Shops at Charleston Place at the corner of Meeting and Market Streets. I was honored to be a guest speaker, and to create a few special flower arrangements for the event. Designed by the multi-talented Jim Weinberg, the space is super cool with different areas devoted to Colonial Candle’s collections (there are over 70 fragrances!). One feature of note is the lovely “wedding room” for brides and planners looking to find a special candle or scent for their special day.  Customers can also test fragrances and offer their feedback and impressions of how they smell.   

I LOVE candles and use them in my home and office as well as for entertaining. Everyone looks better in the glow of candlelight, and our events feature hundreds of candles—from pillars to tapers—all coordinating with the look and color scheme of the party. We tend to cluster groups of candles for maximum effect, but often a simple votive can lend to the atmosphere. Taper candles are of course best displayed in traditional candlesticks (finishes for these can run the gamut from sterling and mercury glass to lacquer and mosaic tile in all sorts of colors). You can get really creative with vessels for pillars, setting them on stands, in hurricane shades or glass cylinders. One rule of thumb is to use unscented candles on a dining table, as scents can interfere with the taste of the food you’re serving. Otherwise, go for it. Stick lighters are my secret to make lighting the wicks a breeze.

That said, the holidays are upon us. Check your candle stash and be sure to stock up. Colonial Candle is truly an amazing “experiential” store and I encourage everyone to stop in to discover their fabulous candles!
