Modeled after the successful Community Supported Agriculture movement, Charleston Supported Art, LLC is an organization that gives members the opportunity to purchase shares in exchange for original pieces of art that are products of a curated group of local artists. What do they need from you? The art!
Through a juried process, CSA will select 12 artists from the Lowcountry to create paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textile, jewelry, and more for the program, with four artists working in each of the three seasons they host (Spring, Summer, and Fall). As an artist, you will receive a stipend of $1500 to create 32 pieces of work that will be distributed to the shareholders. So, not only are you getting a pretty hefty stipend, your works are guaranteed to be in somebody's home and shared with others.
Interested? Apply by November 1 to be considered for the program. (Application link)
So, you may not be an artist, but you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket that you'd love to use for a good, local, community-building cause. Shareholders receive six original works per season, and seasonal shares are purchased at $425 each.
“People are more inclined to purchase and support a product that they feel a connection with,” says Kristy Bishop, co-founder of the program. “CSA offers a means to create that connection, providing artists a platform to showcase their talents to new audiences and allowing patrons to learn the story of the art and artist behind the work.”
