Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) has received $250,000 from Google to use for disaster response. $100,000 will go to the Lowcountry Food Bank as part of CCF’s grantmaking to areas still recovering from Tropical Storm Debby. $150,000 will go into CCF’s Lowcountry Disaster Response Fund and will be designated for future disaster relief and recovery needs in Dorchester County.
“Coastal Community Foundation appreciates Google’s foresight and commitment to supporting disaster response in our region,” said President and CEO Darrin Goss, Sr. “Many disaster events appear without warning. By prioritizing and investing in disaster response in calm times, we can be more responsive and deploy resources quickly when disaster strikes.”
“At Google, we strive to be good neighbors and invest in the wellbeing of the communities we serve,” said Lilyn Hester, head of Google external affairs and government relations. “We love being able to call Dorchester County home and are honored to help Coastal Community Foundation provide relief to those still recovering from Tropical Storm Debby and future disaster assistance in an area vulnerable to storms.”
The Lowcountry Disaster Response Fund supports both immediate relief and long-term recovery effort in times of crisis. All donations to this fund go directly toward disaster relief, with any administrative fees covered by CCF’s Community Partnership Program. This year the Lowcountry Disaster Response Fund has granted $50,000 to recovery efforts in Colleton County following Tropical Storm Debby and severe flooding along the Edisto River. About three weeks of hurricane season remain and CCF be ready to respond within its nine-county region if any natural disasters or other unexpected crises occur.
In total, Google's donation of $250,000 will bolster disaster response and recovery efforts across the Lowcountry. This generous contribution will help ensure that resources are available both for immediate needs and future emergencies.
