Self described as a “Peruvian gypsy mermaid with Cherokee roots,” Jade Kale has spent nearly the last decade traveling coastlines, exploring mountain towns, and channeling her inner magic into artful jewelry befitting of any Earth Goddess. Having had the pleasure of hanging out with Jade as well as sharing some cherished dance-floor moments during her time here in Charleston, I can honestly say that she has a generous spirit and a noble conscious. Whether modeling, photographing, or crafting her one-of-a-kind pieces, Jade exudes beauty and female empowerment.

«How long have you been making jewelry?

I’ve been making/creating jewelry since I can remember, but I launched my jewelry line, Jade Stone Jewelry, in 2006 on the shores of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

«Without giving away all your secrets, where do you source your materials?

Each of my gemstones is sourced and selected by hand at gem and mineral shows across the country. I find that much of my inspiration comes from traveling and finding new stones and minerals to create with. Sometimes I luck out and find a vintage lot of stones at an estate auction, these are the best score because many of the old mines are no-longer running.

«Where did you learn to make jewelry?

I was self-taught for many of my early years crafting. Finally in 2012 I decided to go back to school for silversmithing and jewelry fabrication; I followed that up with lost wax casting. I attended The Mountain Metalsmiths School of Jewelry and Lapidary Arts in Asheville, NC.

«What is your spirit animal and why?

My sprit animal, I have been told, is a hawk. I have a keen eye for observation and you can’t get much by me…

«What is your favorite stone?

My favorite stone is Larimar. It is only found in the Dominican Republic. It was discovered inside of oceanic caves on a local farmers property and was only recently found and given its name. Larimar is the most gorgeous color of Caribbean Sea blue. It reminds me of lost mermaid temples at the depths of the ocean.

«How would you describe the typical Jade Stone Jewelry wearer?

Grounded women with purpose and intention. Someone who can resonate with the energy and vibration of a hand fabricated work of art.
