Have You Found Your Foundation?

Winter is certainly here! Cold and dry are the two sensations I feel when I open my door and hit King Street. I know most of you have changed your clothing to match the season, but have you changed your foundation, too? Just as you shouldn’t be caught dead walking down King in a miniskirt minus tights or a tank top right now, you shouldn’t let your skin go free-spirited with a casual tint or covered with a foundation that matches your tanned summer skin.

Every woman should own at least two foundations—one for the bright, alluring summer months and one for the cool, crisp winter. If you don't, now is the time to go see your beauty specialist and get a foundation that is the right texture, the right coverage, and, most importantly, the right color for your skin this season.

As an artist, I love to play with textures this time of year because yes, my darlings, this is one of the few months here in Charleston when your makeup will not melt off. It’s also the time of year in which it’s appropriate to wear a little more coverage. I suggest you go for a creamy, hydrating, and illuminating formula. (*Remember—apply your concealer after your foundation and set with powder for longevity.)

Now, my dears, don't get offended: You may have been cappuccino-colored all summer long but now you are probably closer to bisque. Use a foundation that matches your skin color now, not your skin at its tannest. One place I like to match foundation up to is the décolleté—the chest gives me a spot-on idea of what shade your face foundation should be. When it is the perfect color, you’ll never have that tell-tale line of demarcation across your chin. Blend your foundation from the center of your face outward. If you feel pale, swipe on a bit a bronzer (we covered this a few months back with “The Bronzed and the Beautiful”).

So there you have it—the proper way to change up the most important part of your makeup wardrobe. I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and that 2013 is the best year yet.

Until next time my loves.

XOXO,

Andrew
