Hidden F&B: Madison White

By Helen Mitternight
(Editor’s Note: Charleston is such a foodie town that food and beverage superstars are hiding in plain sight, out of theJames Beardlimelight, but still very much creating and serving amazing food and drinks. This series profiles Charleston’s “hidden F&Bs.”)
She may have gotten a degree in fashion design, but as General Manager of the newly opened Tempest Restaurant, Madison White says the “world is her oyster."
Tempest is the newest offering from the folks behind5 Church, its sister property located down the street. The restaurant plans to bring seafood that is local and sustainable but not overly complicated.
What Tempest owners didn’t plan on doing, however, was opening in the middle of a pandemic. Hospitality is hospitality, though, says White. While she may not be able to hug or shake hands with patrons who enter, she can still go out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed.
You might expect the GM of a seafood restaurant to say this, but White admits she truly does feel like the world is her oyster! Want more? Check out thecompanion podcast with Madison.
