Can't figure out what to dad for Father's Day this sunday? How about some of the manliest kitchen tools around? These handcrafted wooden items will make the father in your family feel like he's king of the kitchen. Plus, you're buying a locally produced product, made with raw materials from the Lowcountry.

Sawdust Wood Co. was started by a local Charleston couple, Thea Anderson and Jack Manchester, who wanted quality kitchen tools for them to use at home, from chopping to transporting streaks to and from the grill. Their designs eventually expanded to retail.

Sawdust Wood Co. offers handmade, hardwood butcher block-style cutting boards, each board is handmade and, therefore, completely unique. Each board is made entirely with locally-sourced maple, oak, walnut, and cherry wood that are hand-crafted, then oiled and waxed to be food safe. Sawdust’s homemade spoonbutter, which is made from raw beeswax, mineral oil and vitamin E, is offered with each purchase to condition the board between washes to maintain its integrity and increase longevity.

Currently, Mixson Market is one of the only retail suppliers of Sawdust Wood Co. products; the boards can also be purchased at Mixson Farmers Market on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Prices range from $50 to around $200, depending on size and design.
