Summerville’s first cat cafe hits adoption milestone
By Cait Cox
These cats deserve to find their fur-ever homes and we’re making sure that happens.
Mews + Brews Cat Cafe, which opened on Central Avenue in Summerville earlier this year, has reached 50 adoptions in less than two months of being open for business. We've been open for a total of 49 days, averaging at least one adoption with as many three in a single day.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Our guests and cats are loving the concept, so everybody’s happy. These cats deserve to find their fur-ever homes and we’re making sure that happens. We take the time to vet potential adopters and try to match each one with the best cat for them. It’s amazing to see how successful we’ve been in just the short amount of time we’ve been open.
Mews + Brews partners with local shelter Dorchester Paws to handle the intake process for new cats, and also ensures they are spayed/neutered, up to date on their vaccinations and microchipped. The shelter staff assesses each cat’s personality and if they are comfortable around other cats and people, they move into the cat cafe to be adopted through Mews + Brews. The cats live at the cafe 24/7 and receive routine care from both the cafe and shelter staff, until they are adopted.
The cafe serves coffee from Coastal Coffee Roasters, tea, hot chocolate, beer, and wine, as well as pastries from Saffron Bakery. They host a variety of special events which can be found on the monthly calendar on theMews + Brews website.
Mews + Brews is Summerville’s first cat cafe. The cafe offers pre-packaged drinks and food items from local vendors. Visitors can enjoy their purchases in the cafe area or take their food and drink into the cat lounge to spend time with adoptable cats from Dorchester Paws.
