Steven Hawkins

Steven Hawkins is a Freelance writer from Greenville, SC. Since 2014, he has published Letters to the Editor in some of the largest newspapers mainly in South Carolina, North Carolina, and around the country. Some of the regional newspapers he has written for include Greenville News, Anderson Independent Mail, Greer Citizen, The State, Spartanburg Herald Journal, Summerville Journal Scene, Asheville Citizen Times, Mountain Xpress, Charlotte Weekly, Charleston Post and Courier, the Grand Strander and Myrtle Beach Sun News. Some of the National journals and newspapers he has written to include NY Daily News, Detroit Free Press, Washington Times, Jersey Journal and Miami Herald.

As a travel writer, he mainly writes to regional newspapers about the tourist attractions and happenings of the area; the ''Smiling Faces and Beautiful faces" that make South Carolina a great place to live in and travel to from around the world. His Letter to the Editor with the Myrtle Beach Sun News was even named "Lead Letter of the week" on Monday August 22, 2016. The Editorial piece was entitled "It's always a Beautiful day in South Carolina."

Hawkins attended Greenville Technical College from 1996-98, and was enrolled in the Associate of Arts program. He has since worked as a Peer Counselor at the South Carolina Department of Social Services Teen Companion Program, as a Computer Reading Tutor at the Greenville Literacy Association, and has helped his family's janitorial business. For years, his family cleaned the old Flour Daniel Building on Pelham road in Greenville. He attributes his family's strong work ethic to his mother, Janice Jones Hawkins, who was an Insurance Agent for Liberty Life in Taylors, SC.

Hawkins loves to travel and write to newspapers of places he has traveled to, but he also loves to live in his own city, go to the movies and eat at some of the great restaurants of Greenville. His two favorite restaurants are Antonio Bertolo's in Downtown Greenville and Harbor Inn Seafood restaurant.

An avid poetry writer since 2015, his poems have been published on the All Poetry online website, and he has participated in the Greenville Wits End Poetry. His favorite poets are Gwendolyn Brooks and Maya Angelou.
