A local Charleston chef will be featured on the hit TV show BBQ Pit Wars this weekend! The show airs on Destination America on Saturday, June 21 from 10 to 11pm.

In the episode, Charleston resident Russ Cornette leads the Queology team in the renowned Kingsford Invitational in New York. (Cornette is one of the masterminds behind Queology, the award-winning barbeque restaurant from Charleston Hospitality Group on Market Street.) During the show, winners of the country’s eight premier barbeque competitions battle for barbecue’s most prestigious title and largest prize of $50,000.

But if Cornette’s team wins, they aren’t keeping a dime. The Queology team is comprised of military veterans who will be competing on behalf of Folds of Honor, a veteran’s charity that provides scholarships to those who were injured, or to family members of those who were lost while in action. The team is sponsored by Sam Mustafa, founder of Charleston Hospitality Group.

So do they win? I don’t want to spoil it for you. (But I will tell you this… They don’t lose.)

To celebrate, Russ Cornette and his wife, Kristen, and Sam Mustafa are hosting a viewing party at Wild Buffalo Steakhouse in North Charleston on Saturday night. The event is open to the public, including kids (Russ and Kristen are bringing their entire family)! Come watch the show alongside the stars themselves.
